Hi my name is Mary Borman. I am happy you are here! I am a public speaker, fitness enthusiast, swimmer, and model. Oh, and I have Down syndrome.

ABOUT ME

I am a 25 year old woman with Down syndrome. I was the first person with Down syndrome to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I am also the first person with Down syndrome to model in NWA Fashion Week. In addition to these accomplishments I am an ambassador for Down syndrome for the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and in 2018 was named the Self-Advocate of the Year for that organization.

I have been to Washington DC on a number of occasions to lobby for disability rights with our senators and congressmen and was instrumental in helping pass the national ABLE Act that allowed people with disabilities to save money for education without losing access to other government programs.

I swim competitively both nationally and internationally with Special Olympics and the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organization.

I speak to organizations all over the country concerning health, fitness, and nutrition for individuals with Down syndrome as well as helping others understand what it is like to have Down syndrome.

I was a guest speaker at the Arkansas Department of Human Services Executive meeting in 2018 as well as presenting at the NDSS Adult Summit on multiple occasions.
